Walkouts set to hit Capital mail service
MAIL deliveries across Edinburgh face disruption, with a series of strikes planned by postal workers this weekend.
Delivery drivers at the Royal Mail's Sighthill depot will take part in a walkout tomorrow followed by a strike among postmen on Saturday.
The Communication Workers Union said the action was in response to modernisation plans, which it claimed management was trying to push through against the wishes of staff.
The union's Willie Marshall said: "Royal Mail is refusing to sit down and discuss its plans and is just pushing on ahead. We want to get them back round the table."
Royal Mail said it had already made the necessary changes in a number of other offices across the country to help the company become more efficient.
A company spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail has robust contingency plans in place and we will be doing everything in our power to minimise disruption to our customers."
