'Vibrant' Leith Festival programme launched

THIS year's Leith Festival programme has been launched, featuring more than 100 music acts, 40 comedians and a host of other events.

The festival, which takes place from June 5-14, will include theatre and dance productions, visual arts exhibitions, walks, talks and many other activities.

Now in its 102nd year, the festival will include the premier staging of the play Homecoming by Alistair Rutherford, music from Leith-based Aberfeldy and comedy from the likes of Susan Morrison and Vladimir McTavish, aka Paul Sneddon.

Leith Festival manager Rowan Campbell said: "We are delighted to be launching with such a vibrant programme for this year's festival.

"While we do face economic challenges, individuals and businesses across the local community have been outstanding in giving us their support."

The festival will be staged across 48 venues in Leith and throughout Edinburgh. The newly opened arts complex at Meadowbank will host the Leith Festival Art Expo, a free exhibition.

Councillor Gordon Munro, chairman of the Leith Festival, said: "There is something for all ages and I would encourage people to join in the fun."
