Veterans’ home under fire again

A HOME for military veterans in Dundee, which was the focus of two investigations, has been criticised by a watchdog for having a significantly weak quality of care, staffing and management.

The Care Inspectorate had received complaints about treatment of residents at the Rosendael Veterans’ Residence.

The home was also at the centre of a police investigation after the sudden death of a former RAF serviceman in August.

The inspectorate’s report 
followed an unannounced four-day inspection.

Rosendael was facing allegations of a climate of bullying and intimidation, but these were not upheld by the inspectors.

They said that many residents at Rosendael, which is run by Scottish Veterans Housing Association (SVHA), had benefited from their stay there, gaining the confidence and improved self-esteem that allowed them to move out and find employment.

However, the report added that the home provided a controlling environment which some residents said resulted in them in being treated with a lack of respect.

The inspectors said the areas of weakness were “significant” and recommended staff practice and operations should be reviewed.
