Uni honours filmmaker

Oscar-nominated animator and film producer Sylvain Chomet is set to receive an honorary degree at Edinburgh University today.

Mr Chomet, who put the Capital on screen in the animated hit The Illusionist, will receive a Doctor honoris causa at a ceremony at the McEwan Hall.

He said: “I am looking forward to returning to the city that I grew to love so much during my time there.”

The degree ceremony coincides with the 20th edition of the French Film Festival
UK.

Richard Mowe, a film critic and director of the festival, said: “It is wonderful that the city’s most venerable university has seen fit to honour the talents of Sylvain.”
