Underage drinkers target forest football pitch site

A FOOTBALL stadium built by a Capital-based artist has been turned into a drinking den, it has been claimed.

The £460,000 lottery-funded project saw land on the Duke of Buccleuch’s Borders estate transformed into Forest Pitch, with two matches being held there as part of the
Olympic celebrations.

But pictures of teenagers using the wooden pavilion for drinking sessions have now appeared on social networking sites.

Craig Coulthard, 31, was one of 12 artists who won commissions to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad – the only one in Scotland.

He said: “I will be visiting the site in the next few days to check the situation. If there are problems with underage drinking or with litter, we will not hesitate to contact the police.”

The project previously came under fire from politicians as a waste of money after a poor attendance at the football matches in August.
