Two women die in car crash
TWO women were killed when a car crashed into a tree on a country road last night.
They lost control of the car near Gifford, in East Lothian, at about 6pm.
Two doctors and a nurse, as well as firefighters, rushed to the scene to offer first aid, but despite their efforts the two women died.
One other woman suffered serious injuries to her chest and legs.
She was treated by paramedics and a trauma team from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at the scene, before being taken to hospital.
The collision occurred after heavy rain led to poor driving conditions.
