THE owners of the threatened Hall’s of Broxburn meat processing plant have confirmed that they have received two offers for the facility.

• Vion receives two offers for Hall’s of Broxburn plant

• Announcement on future of Hall’s expected at beginning of next week

Dutch company Vion had extended the deadline for bidders to buy the plant, which employs about 1,700 people, until midday yesterday.

The two offers will now be reviewed over the weekend, with an announcement about the future of the factory, which produces the world’s biggest-selling haggis, expected early next week.

A spokesman for Vion said: “We can confirm that we received two offers for the Hall’s site prior to today’s deadline. In addition, one note of interest in the site was withdrawn.

“At this stage, due to commercial confidentiality, we are unable to confirm their identity or the details of the bids.

“Our intention is to complete this process as quickly as possible with a view to making a formal announcement at the beginning of next week.”

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “We are aware Vion are considering two bids from interested parties.

“Since Vion announced the proposed closure in July, the Scottish Government-led taskforce has worked to secure a

viable future for the plant.”
