TV inventor challenged

AN obscure engineer who went to school in Edinburgh is challenging John Logie Baird for his title as the inventor of the television.

Alan Archibald Campbell-Swinton is said to have proposed the idea of TV in 1908 — 17 years before Baird showed off a working set.

Dr Paul Marshall, a researcher based in Lincolnshire, received a grant to study the origins of television and will now present his case in Campbell-Swinton’s birthplace of Duns, Berwickshire.

He says Baird should be renounced as TV’s inventor.
