Tutti Frutti creator steps up to mastermind Scots dance show

TUTTI Frutti creator John Byrne has been asked to mastermind a new piece of Scottish dance as part of a celebration of the country's culture.

The artist and playwright will be the visual effects and design consultant on Off Kilter, to be launched at the Capital's Festival Theatre next month.

Artistic director Morag Deyes, from Dance Base, said: "The whole show is a joyful celebration of Scotland. We want to leave the audiences grinning from ear to ear."

Byrne will join forces with staff from Dance Base, in the Grassmarket, where the production will be staged before it tours the world after runs in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Perth and Inverness.

His involvement is expected to give a huge boost to the project, which includes Highland dancing, ballet, hip hop and traditional Indian techniques.

The show was previously staged at Dance Base in 2004 although some pieces have now been revised.
