Tree planting to celebrate Leith minister

A HAWTHORN tree is to be planted in the grounds of South Leith Parish Church in memory of Rev James Marshall, who died in January at the age of 96.

Dr Marshall, who was born, raised, and worked in Leith, was minister of the Kirkgate Church from 1947 until 1973.

A respected academic who gained a PhD from Edinburgh University, he was also active in many civic and artistic organisations, and an authority on local history.
