Tranent man honoured for saving life

A TRANENT man has been honoured for helping to save a woman’s life after spotting her about to step over the rail on a motorway flyover.

Peter Blackley, a driver for Biffa Municipal, was on his way back from his rounds in North Berwick in June when he saw the woman on the A1.

He phoned police and spent about an hour with the woman.

Mr Blackley was recognised in his company’s national awards.

The 29-year-old said: “She was just about to step over the rails. When I saw her I thought, ‘that’s not right’, and slammed on the brakes. I got out and asked her what she was doing, but she wouldn’t talk to me, so I called the police.”

His boss Malcolm Martin added: “The company and I are very proud of him.”
