Trams shift Leith parade route again
TRAM works have forced organisers of the Leith Festival to re-route their Gala Day Parade for the second consecutive year.
The colourful procession will not make its way down Leith Walk – as it has in previous years – owing to the works and extensive traffic diversions in place across the area.
Participants will instead assemble at Lochend Park, making their way on a shorter route down Lochend Road and then into Leith Links, where every group taking part will be acknowledged in front of the main stage.
This is the 102nd year of the Leith Festival Gala Day and Parade and the second time that the route has had to be changed.
The Leith Festival runs from Friday, June 5 to Sunday 14 with the Gala Day taking place on Saturday, June 13.
"Colours of Leith" is the theme of this year's parade, with organisers keen to show the port's diverse mix of communities.
