Tram bosses silent over deal details
TRAM bosses have refused to reveal details of the contract signed with the project's construction consortium, claiming the move would have a "severe impact" on negotiations.
The Evening News used Freedom of Information laws to request details of the contract which was drawn up with the BSC construction consortium at the start of the project.
But tram firm TIE said releasing the information would impact on a row with contractor Bilfinger Berger, which has led to on-street work grinding to a halt.
Mike Connelly, public affairs manager for TIE, also said that releasing the information could have an impact on any future disputes.
He said: "To release the information would not be in the public interest, in that doing so would prejudice the trams project commercially by weakening any contractual negotiations we may have with other contractors by exposing what we are paying to others and thus forcing up costs."
