Traders fear under-18s' cigarette ban
THE SCOTTISH Parliament is expected to raise the legal age for buying cigarettes from 16 to 18 today, raising concerns among shopkeepers of attacks by aggressive youngsters.
After meeting with Shona Robison, the public health minister, the health committee yesterday recommended the move. Today, the parliament is expected to vote for the new age restriction, which could come into force at the beginning of next month.
But Mary Scanlon, the Tory health spokeswoman, said that without enforcement measures the new rule would be a waste of time.
