Tourists put city second

THE Capital has been named Britain’s second favourite travel destination in a new survey.

In its Travellers’ Choice 2012 Awards, holiday reviews website TripAdvisor placed Edinburgh second behind London in the UK and 13th in Europe.

The league table is based on tens of millions of reviews by visitors to 440 worldwide destinations. Glasgow came fifth in the UK top ten list.

The site said: “While dramatic windswept hills make Edinburgh a site to behold, its rich history makes it a city to remember. From the world-famous Edinburgh Castle, to St Giles’ Cathedral, Mary King’s Close and the Museum of Scotland, the sites are plentiful.”
