Top project award in the can for Capital food waste project

A FOOD waste project in the Capital has been named as one of the best schemes of its kind in the world.

The Edinburgh Food Waste project scooped a top ten ranking in the KPMG Infrastructure 100 – a league table of the most innovative infrastructure projects from across the globe.

Judges at accountancy giant KPMG said hundreds of submissions were judged on criteria ranging from feasibility, social impact, technical and financial complexity, innovation and impact on society. The Edinburgh project impressed judges as a response to the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste plan, which aims to separate all food waste from regular rubbish by 2013, and stop recyclable material going to landfill by 2015.

Richard Threlfall, KPMG’s UK head of infrastructure, building and construction, said: “The UK still punches way above its geographic and economic weight with seven of the 100 most important projects in the world across a range of sectors.”
