Too heavy table and chairs get the chop

SCOTTISH Borders Council is planning to spend about £50,000 replacing tables and chairs in its debating chamber, because they are too heavy to lift.

The local authority said health and safety legislation had forced it to look at replacing the furniture, which has been used at its Newtown St Boswells headquarters for 23 years, and laying a new carpet.
