Thousands join campaign to honour hero firefighter Ewan
MORE than 3,300 people have now signed up to the Evening News campaign to secure a posthumous gallantry medal for fallen firefighter Ewan Williamson.
And we are calling on readers who still have copies of the petition to return to do so now to make sure their support counts.
The Evening News wants the 35-year-old firefighter awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal in recognition of his role battling the fire at the Balmoral bar in Dalry Road in July, in which he lost his life.
Twenty people, including a baby, were rescued from flats above the pub as Mr Williamson fought the blaze below.
Signatures are being collected by Mr Williamson's friends, traders close to Tollcross fire station – where he was based – and supporters across the Capital.
If you have petition forms to submit, send them to Honour a Hero, the News Desk, Edinburgh Evening News, 108 Holyrood Road, EH8 8AS.
If you would like to add your name to the petition online, e-mail online@scotsman.com.
