Thompson returns to old post as council's SNP group leader
LOANHEAD councillor Owen Thompson has been re-elected leader of the SNP group at Midlothian Council.
He replaces Gorebridge councillor Colin Beattie, who held the post for one year.
Cllr Beattie, who did not seek re-selection and nominated Cllr Thompson, will become depute group leader and group spokesman.
The SNP councillors agreed to review their group appointments on an annual basis. Cllr Thompson previously held the leadership post in 2007-08.
He said he received the unanimous support of colleagues and this in no way reflected on Cllr Beattie's term in office.
Cllr Thompson said: "The whole group was absolutely delighted with Colin as group leader for last year.
"Moving on, we will see what happens and who takes over next year."
