The Kiss goes on show in Scottish first

ONE of the world’s most iconic sculptures has gone on show in the Capital – the first time it has been exhibited in Scotland.

Auguste Rodin’s famous celebration of love, The Kiss, has arrived for a year-long display at the Scottish National Gallery.

The larger-than-life piece, which depicts two naked lovers in a passionate embrace, is on loan from the Tate in London.

The Kiss was first exhibited to huge popular acclaim in 1898.

Michael Clarke, director of the Scottish National Gallery, said: “We are delighted that Rodin’s great hymn to love is coming to Scotland.

“He was an extremely popular artist in his lifetime and The Kiss had an extraordinary impact. It is rightly acknowledged as one of the greatest artistic evocations of desire ever created.”
