Thai community voice fears for relatives

MEMBERS of the Thai community in Edinburgh have spoken of their concern for relatives and loved ones caught up in violent clashes in Bangkok that have left 70 dead since March.

Chefs Kannika, 36, and her husband Anurat, 41 are worried for their daughter's welfare.

"My daughter can't go to school. The school is open now, but it's not safe – who knows what's going to happen tomorrow?" said Anurat, who did not wish to give his surname.

Sang Thong, a Buddhist monk who is deputy-head of the Wat Dhammapadipa temple in Slateford, which also acts as the community centre for the Scottish-Thai Association, said he was flying to Bangkok.

"I'm worried about if I will be able to travel," he said.
