Tesco has lodged a planning application for a Tesco Express on Princes Street

TESCO is set to open its first store on Princes Street.

A planning application has been lodged to turn a vacant unit next to RBS at the West End into a Tesco Express.

The supermarket giant is seeking permission from the city council to move into the former Boots shop along with listed building consent.

A Sainsbury’s Local store is already due to open on Shandwick Place in the former Habitat store.

It is understood a decision on the Tesco plan will be taken by planning officials in the coming weeks with the application not going before councillors unless objections are raised.
