Tesco Bank is evacuated over package

THOUSANDS of workers from Tesco Bank were evacuated yesterday after a suspicious package was discovered within the building.

Police and the Army were called to the office at South Gyle Crescent just after 8.30am yesterday after the package – described as a small plastic wrapped item – was discovered going through the postal system.

The building was cleared while a controlled explosion was carried out.

A spokesman for Tesco Bank said: “A suspicious package was detected and as the safety of our staff is paramount and as a precaution we have evacuated the building and contacted the police.”

Police later confirmed that the package turned out to be innocuous.
