Teens given PCs to keep them off the streets
YOUTHS groups in Leith were today set to be given ten reconditioned computers by police in a bid to keep teens off the streets and cut antisocial behaviour.
Officers from Leith Neighbourhood Action Unit were expected to hand over the computers as part of a recycling initiative.
The officers have been working closely with partner agencies in the area to provide diversionary activities for young people, including youth clubs where internet access is available.
Among the youth clubs that will benefit from the new computers are Citadel Youth Club, Ripple Project, Acorn Club, Pilmenny Youth Club and Sikh Sanjog.
The computers have been made available to police by Central Scotland Recycling Ltd, a Falkirk-based company that recycles unused business and home electronic equipment.
Pc David Nelson said: "These computers should prove to be valuable additional resources for youth groups in Leith. They provide young people with things to do in the evenings, and we are happy to support them."
