Teen may have died of exposure

TRIBUTES have been paid to tragic teenager Scott Campbell, thought to have died of exposure at the weekend in a garden only a short distance from his family’s home in Inverness.

Inverness Royal Academny yesterday held a special assembly and memorial service for the 16-year-old former pupil.

The teenager’s body was found on Sunday in the garden of a house in the Culduthel area, just yards from his parents’ house, after he failed to return home after a night out.

Northern Constabulary is treating his death as unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination, but there are fears he may have succumbed to exposure in plunging temperatures after he set out to return home from a party.

Scott left Inverness Royal Academy last summer to become an apprentice at a local garage. He was brought up in the crofting village of Dell, on Lewis.

As well as the school service for his former classmates, a memorial service, attended by members of Scott’s family, was held last night at the Culduthel Christian Centre.

Alastair McKinlay, rector of the academy, said: “Scott was energetic, and would have had a lot to contribute in the future.”
