TechCube hothouse for start-ups
THE Capital’s hi-tech sector will be boosted this week with the opening of a centre providing office space and support to start-up companies.
The TechCube will offer 20,000 sq ft of incubator space in a seven-storey office near the Meadows to fledgling firms in Edinburgh.
TechCube directors said the building was nearly full, with fantasy sports start-up FanDuel and cloud computing service PlanForCloud among 17 companies signed up.
Gareth Williams, chief executive of Edinburgh-based flight search engine Skyscanner, said the centre could help kickstart the local tech community. “TechCube is a fantastic initiative,” he said. “There’s a really interesting set of start-ups emerging right now, and I look forward to seeing more tech companies emerging over time providing ever more skilled, creative jobs for the best talent in Scotland.”
Directors said they were hopeful the new facility would address a lack of resources for small firms.
TechCube managing director Dr Jamie Coleman said: “I hope that TechCube will fuel the incredible Scottish start-up community by bringing together the hottest start-ups and private equity. By lowering the barriers to entry, we can create a true meritocracy.”
