TAYSIDE Police have issued an urgent appeal to the public after one of the force’s officers lost a potentially dangerous CS gas spray while on duty.

The force revealed that the CS spray canister and holder had gone missing on either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

A force spokesman said: “The canister and holder were lost by an operational police officer whilst on duty in Dundee on Tuesday night through into Wednesday morning. Efforts to trace the CS spray canister and holder have so far proved negative.”

She continued: “Unfortunately the officer was working in different areas of Dundee throughout the night so it’s difficult to pin down where he might have lost the canister to one specific area.

“The CS spray is a small grey metal canister with a grey top which is around four inches high and once inch in diameter. It has the words ‘CS incapacitant’ on it together with ‘Police use only, if found return to a police station’ and contains warnings that the spray is flammable and an irritant. Instruction has been given to officers regarding security of equipment.”

The spokeswoman added: “We would urge anyone who finds the CS spray or holder to contact Tayside Police as the CS spray is potentially dangerous if used by untrained personnel.”
