Tarantulas make public appearance

five tarantulas which were bred in captivity are making their first public appearance at Deep Sea World after spending almost a year in a nursery tank.

The pink-toe tarantulas, which are about 10cm across, were born last year at sister attraction the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire.

After spending almost 12 months in quarantine, they are now set to join Deep Sea World’s colony of tree-dwelling spiders, which originate from Guyana. Visitors will be able to watch the tarantulas from outside their display, and can also climb inside and spot them through a two-metre acrylic viewing tower.

Deep Sea World’s Michael Morris said: “The spiders have virtually trebled in size over the past 12 months and they are now big enough to fend for themselves in the main display. However, they still have quite a lot of growing to do.”
