Talk on Darwin's Falkland studies
STUDIES of the Falkland Islands made by Charles Darwin are to be discussed at Edinburgh Zoo.
Dr Phil Stone of the British Geological Survey will give the talk, which aims to show how his experiences in the Falkland Islands influenced the development of his scientific theories.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which owns Edinburgh Zoo, has a particular interest in the discoveries Darwin made whilst on the Falklands.
Since 2004, RZSS has been collaborating with Falklands Conservation, providing both funding and staffing for several conservation initiatives, including, in particular, work to protect the local penguin population.
The talk, 'Charles Darwin and the Falkland Islands', is being held at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 18, in the Education Centre of Edinburgh Zoo. Places can be booked online at edinburghzoo.org.uk.
