Talk of the Town: We’re happy with our Bobby

THEY’RE already after our world records – and now they want to collar our four-legged folklore.

Our friends in St Andrews, as revealed in this column last week, are attempting to steal the Capital’s crown as the host of the biggest ever Scottish Country Dance.

Now they have Greyfriars Bobby in their sights as the inspiration for a tribute to their own animal hero.

A cat called Hamish McHamish, who struts freely about the Fife town enjoying cuddles and treats from locals and tourists alike

is set to be honoured with a statue.

Scottish sculptor David Annand has been commissioned and reckons his piece could become as renowned as that of the Edinburgh terrier – but we’ll take Bobby over Moggy any day.

There’s lovely …

THINK of Welsh entertainment and a male voice choir often springs to mind.

So, keeping with the stereotype, a night of “light-hearted entertainment” is promised from the lads of Mynydd Mawrat at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel on Friday ahead of the crucial Six Nations clash between Scotland and Wales at Murrayfield this weekend.

Let’s wish the Welsh boys every success . . . at least until battle commences on the pitch.

It’s the food of love

CHOCOLATE giant Cadbury has launched a new Panda Guide to Love as our Chinese friends near mating season at Edinburgh Zoo.

And with a bit of luck and help from the guide, Tian Tian and Yang Guan will soon be Wispa-ing sweet nothings to each other.

Some fan requests are a little too hairy

FORMER Miss West Lothian and star of Britain’s Next Top Model Ashley Brown has probably dealt with more than her fair share of bizarre demands, but few as odd as the request she was sent by a fan – she hopes – on Twitter.

The 23-year-old explained on the social network site: “Strangest message I’ve ever received . . . can i have ur old hair extensions please??”
