Surgeon slams guide decision
A LEADING Edinburgh brain surgeon has slammed health bosses for not recognising a common head injury.
Consultant neurosurgeon Patrick Statham said he was “stunned” when he discovered NHS Scotland doctors had refused to include post-traumatic hypopituitarism (PTHP) in new clinical guidelines.
The decision came even though studies show up to a third of people with head injuries have the condition.
Mr Statham said: “This decision is daft...[PTHP} fits into the rehabilitation of all patients with head injury, both physical cognitive and psychological.”
