Supermarket issues billing warning to city shoppers
CUSTOMERS at Morrisons in The Gyle are being urged to check their bank statements after faulty self-service tills charged repeatedly for the same transaction.
The supermarket chain has pledged to refund the money, but one of those affected warned that customers could risk being hit with bank charges.
Full-time mum, Sandra Budge, 47, of Silverknowes, bought two bottles of wine for 18 last Friday and it was only when she checked her bank statement she realised she had been charged three times.
She said she had spoken to the store's assistant manager: "He told me that on 26, 27 and 28 June anybody that used that self-service till, their transactions have come off multiple times.
"I can think of lots of people that wouldn't check their accounts and could go overdrawn. I'm livid."
A Morrisons spokeswoman apologised for the error and said: "A transactional error by a supplier involved in the payment clearing process resulted in a small number of customers using the self-service checkouts in our Gyle store being charged more than once.
"The issue was identified quickly and has now been fully resolved with all affected customers receiving a refund for any over-charge."
