Students run laps to pay for Santa visit

STUDENTS from the Capital are set to run Laps for Lapland in a Christmas charity event.

Sports and fitness students from Edinburgh's Telford College are taking part in a Christmas charity run of laps for the When You Wish Upon a Star charity to help raise funds to grant the wishes of terminally ill children.

The highlight of the charity's year is when it charters four planes and takes 400 children to Lapland to meet the real Santa Claus.

Sports lecturer at the college, Louise Farrell said: "Every year the sports and fitness department at Edinburgh's Telford College participate in this Christmas fundraising event and I am always delighted that our students are so enthusiastic to take part in this festive cause. Last year we raised 3,000, which we are hoping to beat this year."

Margaret Rowarth, from the When You Wish Upon a Star charity said: "By taking part in this event the students' fundraising efforts will directly benefit children from all over Scotland."

The run is being held at the college tomorrow at 9:15am, and comes ahead of the Great Scottish Santa Run on Sunday, 13 December at West Princes Street Gardens, where it is expected that more than 1,000 people dressed in Santa hats will participate.
