Students help others fashion career in retail

INTERNATIONAL fashion and marketing students are mentoring a group of disadvantaged young people to help them on to the career ladder.

The mentoring was arranged after the Heriot-Watt University MSc in International Fashion Marketing post-graduate course joined forces with the Prince's Trust Get into Retail programme.

Under the guidance of Professor Neil Towers, the 13 Heriot-Watt students helped the disadvantaged young people by preparing for the course's celebration event at Heriot-Watt University's George Davies Centre for Retail Excellence.

They worked together to design T-shirts and present a showcase about their experiences during the six-week course.

The students will continue to support and mentor the young people for three months after they graduate from the course as they embark on careers in the fashion retail industry.

Heriot-Watt student Emma Davis said: "As a mentor, the Prince's Trust gave me a chance to meet and engage with some wonderful people. It was great to pass on any advice and knowledge I have learnt within the industry. It has been inspiring to watch the young people grow and develop their skills in retail. The experience was wholly positive and extremely enjoyable."
