Student admits assaulting police officer

A STUDENT attacked a police officer who intervened while he argued with his girlfriend.

Yoann Clement, 21, pushed Constable Jamie Henderson to the ground before punching him on the head as he tried to get back up.

The assault took place after two police officers on foot patrol saw French national Clement having an argument with his girlfriend in Middle Meadow Walk on December 15 last year.

Despite the officers warning Clement, of Bellevue Street, about his conduct, the arguing continued. The pair then approached the student, who began struggling with Constable Henderson before pushing and then punching him.

Clement pleaded guilty to the assault and was yesterday fined £200 at Edinburgh
Sheriff Court.
