‘Strangler’
hunt goes on

POLICE today issued a fresh appeal for any witnesses to an attack on a schoolgirl by a strangler who left hand-shaped bruises on the victim’s neck.

The 16-year-old was walking home from a party at a friend’s house when she was hauled to the ground by the suspect, who wrapped his hands round her neck and tried to suffocate her.

Detectives said that the man was silent throughout the attack in Colinton Road, near the junction with Lockharton Crescent, at 1:50am on Sunday before the teenager fought him off.

A police spokesman said: “The investigation continues. No arrests have been made.”

The suspect is aged between 17 and 21-years-old, around 5ft 6in tall, with a slim but muscular build. He may have been wearing a faded blue zip-up hoody and black joggers, possibly Canterbury brand.
