Standard Life invests in city cancer charity

STANDARD Life Investments has raised more than £100,000 for a charity for children with leukaemia.

The Edinburgh-based company has awarded the windfall to Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP), which is also based in the Capital.

The charity runs a telephone helpline for families who need support, as well as parent support meetings across Scotland.

It also provides transport to clinics and wards to almost 400 families, as well as sending families on holidays to its Berwick-Upon-Tweed caravan park and destinations around the world.

Throughout 2008, employees at SLI were involved in fundraising events, including an auction, a book and CD stall, a race night, a 10km run, a talent show, a sponsored walk and a charity ball.

In addition, employees have helped renovate the charity's holiday cottage, produced a promotional DVD and helped redesign the charity's website – all in their own time.

Keith Skeoch, chief executive at SLI, said: "2008 is our tenth-anniversary year.

I hope the money we've raised and the time we've given go some way to supporting the fantastic work that CCLASP is doing for people within our community."
