Speeding up plans for city broadband
A MOVE to make high-speed broadband available to 90 per cent of Capital residents and businesses by 2015 has been submitted to the UK Government.
The city council is set to receive funding worth between £8 million and £11m for its Connected Capital project, part of Westminster’s £100m Urban Broadband scheme.
It will include enhanced wireless zones in key streets, squares and parks, with the council also contributing £1.9m. Councillor Alasdair Rankin, finance and resources committee convener, said: “Edinburgh is fast moving towards becoming a super- connected city.
“This funding will help the city to attract new jobs and investment, help unemployed people into work or learning and will greatly enhance our offering as a digitally inclusive city.”
