SPCA launch appeal after buill terrier injuries spark illegal dog fighting fears
SCOTLAND’S leading animal welfare charity is appealing for information after a dog was found in the Seaton area of Aberdeen with injuries consistent with the bull terrier being involved in an illegal animal fight.
• A dog found in the Seaton area with injuries is feared to have been involved in illegal animal fighting
• SPCA say bull terrier was found with multiple scars to the face and body
Officers from the Scottish SPCA have launched an investigation after the dog was found at the Aulton playing fields on 19 September.
Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: “The dog is a two to three year old female, fawn coloured Staffordshire bull terrier crossbreed. Veterinary examination has revealed that her injuries and scarring are consistent with having been involved in dog fighting.
“Some of her scars are up to a year old, but her most recent injuries may have been sustained shortly before she was found. She also has a large surgical wound on her abdomen showing she has undergone some form of invasive surgical procedure.”
He continued: “We have spoken to various local veterinary practices but no-one has any records of treating this dog so we are now appealing to the wider community to come forward with any information they might have.
“She is quite a distinct dog and anyone who has seen her being walked is likely to have noticed the scarring to her face.
“We are urging anyone who recognises the dog and knows who may have owned her to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999. All calls are treated in the strictest confidence and information can be left anonymously.”
An SSPCA spokesman said: “Animal fighting is a criminal offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Maximum sentences include up to 12 months in prison, a £20,000 fine or both. “
