Songwriter chosen for sponsorship by EMI

A TALENTED young songwriter has been selected from hundreds of students at a leading 'rock and roll' college to receive sponsorship from a music publishing giant.

Kit Willmott, 20, from Murrayfield, was chosen to receive a grant from EMI Music Publishing UK, home to songwriters such as Mark Ronson, Duffy, Kasabian and Amy Winehouse.

The company will sponsor Mr Willmott's songwriting degree course at Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

Previous BIMM students include The Kooks, Brit-nominee singer-songwriter Beth Rowley, Kate Walsh and Elliot Andrews of the Kate Nash band.

Mr Willmott's family still live on Corstorphine Road and he said Edinburgh inspires his music. The young musician also plays guitar and has started his own band with other musicians from BIMM.

Mr Willmott said: "Studying at BIMM has been brilliant and I know I am on the right track to a successful career in music. I am so pleased to be making valuable contacts within EMI and am also benefiting from their advice."
