Sir Sean Connery takes back row seat
SIR SEAN Connery has announced he is to scale down his involvement with the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The former James Bond star, who turns 80 this year, has been a patron of the event since 1992. He will continue to support the film festival, but he said he may not be able to attend every year.
His agent, Nancy Selzer confirmed Sir Sean had decided to take a back seat. She said: "Sir Sean made an emotional speech about his stay in Edinburgh declaring he was stepping down as patron."
Last Sunday he attended a gala showing of The Man who Would Be King, hailed as his best film, at the Festival Theatre.
Film festival artistic director Hannah McGill said: "We are extremely grateful for Sir Sean's patronage of nearly 20 years."
