Show reveals work of blind photographer
A CITY photographer has opened her latest exhibition – even though she has been blind for over 40 years.
Rosita McKenzie, 54, is showing her photographic work in the caf of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
And, although totally blind since the age of 12, she is currently in talks with a major Californian gallery about a future photographic venture.
The grandmother-of-two was living in south London in the mid-60s when she caught a rare eye virus
similar to toxocariasis, which can be passed on to humans through dog faeces.
She turned professional in 2006 after being asked to create a unique, pictorial exhibition of Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden taken from the perspective of a blind person.
During her current exhibition, Ms McKenzie is aided by close friend and visual artist Camille Adams, who produces raised, tactile interpretations of her photographic work.
The exhibition, Back Stage at the Traverse, is at the Traverse Theatre until October 25.
