Shore area to be extended with complex
A TEN-STOREY complex which will extend the Shore area in Leith is to be built on the site of a former radio station's headquarters.
The 15 million Pier One landmark will become an official new gateway marking a new entranceway into the docklands.
Two restaurants will be created at the bottom of the complex, while the rest will be given over to office space, it was reported today.
Despite the credit crunch, developer Forth Ports is hoping to let out most of the building and work could get under way as early as the second half of next year, subject to planning permission and interest from potential operators.
Nathan Thompson, managing director of Forth Ports, said: "It is important that we have a vision on these difficult times and this project is another example of how we are creating a development opportunity that will deliver a long-term economic benefit to Leith and the city of Edinburgh."
