Seven struck by salmonella
AS MANY as seven people have contracted salmonella poisoning after eating at a Chinese restaurant, forcing health officials to close it yesterday.
Four people have been confirmed with the bug after eating at the Princess Rose restaurant in Balloch, Dunbartonshire, with three other suspected cases linked to the premises.
The restaurant was shut by environmental health officers from West Dunbartonshire Council while investigations were carried out. One person was taken to hospital during the outbreak - which is believed to have started two weeks ago - but was released after treatment.
NHS Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire Council health officials held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss the salmonella outbreak.
Dr Syed Ahmed, consultant in public health, said: "We are working with West Dunbartonshire Council, Argyll and Bute Council and NHS Highland to identify other potential cases and the cause of the outbreak."
