Service for grieving parents

PARENTS who have suffered a miscarriage will be able to commemorate their loss in a national service in the Capital.

The Saying Goodbye services have been organised throughout the UK for people who have lost a baby at any stage of pregnancy, with the Scottish event due to take place on Saturday in St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral.

The service will be free to attend and is open to all. It will also feature personal stories, poetry and music.

Saying Goodbye founder Zoe Clark-Coates said: “We wanted to create services that would give a wonderful goodbye to babies that have been lost, and allow the parents to grieve in a supportive environment.

“When you have parents saying ‘this is the first time in 50 years that I am being able to grieve and say goodbye’, you understand that whether it happened yesterday or half a century ago, the pain is still there, and people need help.”

Ambassador Professor Lord Robert Winston said: “I hope these services will be a turning point in the nation, and through this organisation miscarriage will become more widely understood.”
