Scuffle brothers settle boozy argument – in the cells

TWO battling brothers made up in the cells after being arrested during a drunken argument.

Paul McCarthy needed hospital treatment after a scuffle with sibling
Thomas.

But Paul was also taken into custody by officers after repeatedly threatening to “stab and kill” his brother. He was charged with breach of the peace, while Thomas was freed.

Both shook hands and grinned outside court yesterday after it emerged they settled their differences the same night by chatting through the bars of their cells while in custody.

Paul, 27 – who pleaded guilty at Livingston Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at St John’s Hospital in Livingston – was ordered to carry out 30 hours of unpaid work and address his “excessive drinking”. Glenn Fraser, defending, said the brothers had begun arguing during a drinking session at Paul’s home in Bathgate, West Lothian.

He said: “As soon as he sobered up this came to an end. They’ve spent a lot of time together since then.”
