A SCOTS MP is recovering in hospital after breaking her leg in a fall in the London Underground.

Fiona O’Donnell, East Lothian MP, tripped up on stairs at Paddington tube station in London while carrying a heavy suitcase.

The 52-year-old Labour politician was rushed to St Thomas’s hospital where x-rays revealed a fracture to her right leg.

Her son Lawrence, who lives in London, was at her bedside as she awaited the results of a further scan to check if she had also injured her knee.

Ms O’Donnell, who was elected in 2010, fell after being forced to haul her luggage up the stairs at the London station due to the escalator being out of order.

The MP spent three nights recovering in hospital after the fall on Monday afternoon as she returned from an official visit to Bangladesh.

Joanna Cowan, case worker at the MP’s constituency office, said earlier this week: “At this stage we don’t know when Fiona will be discharged, but she is hoping to back in the constituency by the weekend, depending on the outcome of the scan.

“I think the intention is that she will still be picking up emails and we will certainly be keeping her up to date with ongoing issues and new case.”
