Scottish firms to benefit from £7bn offshore pot
A NEW £900,000 initiative to help Scottish companies grab a lion’s share of the £7 billion market for offshore wind developments will be launched today on the opening day of Scotland’s largest ever offshore renewable energy conference
The massive investment to support rapid growth in the developing offshore wind industry will be announced by Dr Lena Wilson, the chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, in her keynote address to the Scottish Offshore Wind Conference at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC). The funding will be used to support more than 600 Scottish businesses capture a share of the potential 28,000 new jobs and £7bn investment expected from the emerging industry.
Dr Wilson said: “Scotland has the potential to boast a thriving supply chain of companies across the main stages of offshore wind. Our analysis suggests there are more than 750 companies which already supply products and services to the market or who have the ambition to diversify into offshore wind and to secure as much of this new industry as possible.”

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 02:23 PMIt is very important to Scotlands economy that we have greater development in wind technology. I hope that many more windfarms will be built.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 04:01 PMGone with the wind, or should I say "CON with the wind" as £900,000 of our money goes down the drain in order that the wind industry can get even more subsidies.
