A SENIOR manager is reported to have resigned from G4S in Scotland because of the crisis over recruiting security guards for the Olympics.

The duty security manager, who has not been named by G4S, was the deputy security manager in Scotland and held an “overview” role, looking after security at Hampden stadium and the team hotels.

G4S said the individual “felt the situation was becoming intolerable”.

The announcement came hours after Strathclyde Police announced it was taking control of security at Olympic venues in Scotland because it was felt the security firm G4S could not meet its commitments.

Last week it emerged that Scotland’s largest police force would have to deploy extra officers because not enough G4S staff turned up for work.

It is understood Scotland’s deputy security manager left the post with immediate effect on Friday.

G4S’s head of Olympic security for Scotland, Kenny Graham, said the individual had since been replaced.
