Safe fireworks sales urged

Shops that plan to sell fireworks for Hallowe’en and
Bonfire Night are being reminded to make sure they are sold and stored safely.

Midlothian Council’s Trading Standards is advising retailers that they need to register to store fireworks on their premises and adhere to regulations when selling fireworks to the public, including verifying the age of customers if they look under 25.
Councillor Owen Thompson, cabinet Member responsible for Trading Standards, said: “Our experience is that most local retailers are responsible and conform to the law on the sale and safe storage of fireworks.

“The message to retailers who break the law is clear – you will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and could face a heavy fine and even potential imprisonment.”
